Lily Does Tulsa (& Does it with Aplomb)

On Sunday evening I had the rare opportunity to see (and even meet) a performer whom I have admired for over thirty years - the one, the only, the truly fabulous, Ms. Lily Tomlin. My boss (Rick Ducey) and I sprung for the deluxe package that included a reception after the show and an once-in-a-lifetime chance to meet the great Lily Tomlin. Lily was in town to perform at a benefit for Planned Parenthood (in recognition of the thirty year anniversary of Roe v. Wade). She was, needless-to-say, fantastic. Lily opened with some jokes that had a Tulsa flavor, she even had Ernestine fielding a call to Senator Tom Coburn inquiring where his donation to the Tulsa PAC Trust Fund was, and in the process we heard one of many signature lines: "Blackmail is such an ugly word, let's just call it a vicious threat." The crowd roared with laughter. Tulsa loves Lily and Lily is apparently fond of Tulsa. At the elegant champagne reception Ms. Tomlin was down-to-earth, gracious, and very accessible, signing numerous autographs and posing for seemingly endless photos with fans. All-in-all, it was a wonderful evening and a night to remember.
